Someone Called Eva Asked me to Write a Poem

Ra'ab bundled up his cloak,

And ran, ran, ran towards the wall

His body crashed against the bricks

Ra'ab felt a sharp stinging pain pierce his body.

"My soul is not hurt, not hurt" he muttered.

And gathering his thoughts once again,

Raab ran again, with full force, towards the wall.

And soon, a rhythm was set..

Raab ran, crashed, staggered back,

And then like a phoenix,

The blue clad figure, approached the wall again.

After a hundred futile attempts,

Raab sat on the dust, looked down, and

For the first time in months,

He cried.

He knew that he was a bad disciple

He was not learning the tricks quick enough.

The master wouldn't be pleased.

Then like a vengeful snake,

Raab ran back again at the wall

Body coiled as if to strike.

This time he was knocked unconscious.

Raab regained his consciousness at about midday

He drank a goblet of wine to sedate his nerves

And muttered to himself, "If I couldn't do it, then must've been impossible."

But why would the master order an impossible task?

Raab was angry and frustrated with himself.

He was the star disciple of the school

He passed every exam with the highest grade,

He thought, "So can not become like my master someday."

In front of the master, Ra'ab felt himself shrinking

But the master merely smiled, and asked him to go home..

Ra'ab's cheeks burnt as he turned to go, and then; The master called out from behind.

"Remember the third verse Ra'ab, the third verse;"

Raab ran, thinking he had the key

The third verse of course!

The third verse of course!

The third verse it is!

And the third verse it must be!

Oh lord, why did he not think of it earlier?

"Leave all that you have, behind. Behind."

Raab took of his cloak;

The sun was blazing now; sweat dripped from his matted hair.

"It is time for the final revelation" he thought. He ran towards the wall, in his loins, now.

And he crashed and fell.

Ra'ab was in a frenzy now, afternoon turned to evening, evening turned to night

Ra'ab ran like the ocean tide

Crashed like the ocean waves

And now Ra'ab let go of his loins

Bare naked

Ra'ab ran again, and again, and again, and failed.

It was midnight

And Ra'ab, mad now,

Screaming like a pariah dog

Tears running down his cheeks

Ran towards his master's house.

Amazingly the master was awake and alert;

What more, he was calmly seated on a chair.

As if, he were waiting for Ra'ab.

In his usual grave voice, he said "Let's go, son, today is your final lesson"

The master took Ra'ab to another room-

A man was on the ground.

Hands tied up behind the back;

The master said, "This is our slave, and tonight,

You will learn how to slit a throat."

Raab was taken aback.

The man on the floor screamed, tried to say something, but he was gagged..

Shining the light on the mans face,

The master said in a fearsome whisper,

"Slit his throat. Now. Ra'ab. Now."

Ra'ab hesitated.

Master said. "You don't want the beautiful heaven behind the wall, do you?

Do it.

Several tense seconds passed.

Ra'ab then closed his eyes

Took the dagger from the master's hands,

And in one swift motion,

It was all over.

Blood spurted everywhere.

The master said "Wash yourself with blood

Ra'ab, blood cleanses your soul"

Ra'ab now walked back to the wall

He smiled, knowing that he was finally eligible

He took some steps backwards.

And,

He ran

He ran towards the wall

The villagers found Ra'ab's bleeding body in the early hours of dawn

He had died from hemorrhage fatigue and injuries.

Birds were chirping, people started to wake up.

Children were to go to school.

All in all, it was a beautiful morning.

The master was busy though.

He was making a noose,

A seventy-year-old corpse needed to be hanged.
